Staying Safe and Avoiding Ticket Scams

During festival season with high-demand events and international concert tours, ticket touts are operating in-person and online, leaving fans out of pocket being led to believe they are purchasing legitimate tickets to see their favourite artist. Here are some strategies to make sure you don’t fall for a ticket scam, and how you can make sure you get to attend concerts and festivals this summer with help from Pyngo

What to watch for:

  • Buy from the official primary source wherever possible. Check the artist or event's own website to see which platforms are authorised. Sometimes artists also choose an offical resale partner
  • Never pay via bank transfer, Revolut personal, or PayPal Friends and Family. Scammers often request a portion of the money initially, and then ghost you and block your ability to contact them
  • Check the URL of any ticketing website carefully before entering card details. Look it up on Companies House (UK) or the CRO (Ireland) if you are not certain.
  • Check whether official print-at-home tickets are even issued for this event. If they are not, any PDF being sold online or via social media is fake.
  • Be wary before you purchase any ticket on social media, many scammers use this as their first point of call and operate with fake or faceless profiles
  • Offering to send screenshots of QR codes are usually invalid where an event may require you to show a life or regenerating QR code on an official app

How Pyngo helps

Pyngo will only notify you once a ticket is listed on an official ticket platform instead of any third party websites or notifications from social media. This ensures that you are purchasing a genuine ticket for the event, as sold directly by the venue’s offical ticketing partner.

Although you may need to wait slightly longer for the official resale drops to begin, it is well worth the wait knowing that you’re spending money on genuine tickets that appear from production drops or fan-to-fan resale, and with Pyngo, you will be the first to know when a ticket is listed and can be purchased officially.
